The Little Barn Project

The Little Barn Project exists to support artists. 

It is the personal passion project of a woman called Denise Myers. 

By trade and training, she is a teacher of English Literature. She also has a degree in Documentary Photography, although hasn't made any work in a long while..

The Little Barn Project began with a BIG idea in September of 2014: there would be a large property in rural France, with lots of rooms for artists and a whole lot of studio space;  there would be an orchard, and a stream and, and...  Unfortunately, as with many ideas in this world finances did not quite allow its realisation and the almost transcendental hope to create a not-for-profit artists' retreat was shelved until in 2017, a small agricultural building on a road called Rue Rêve d'Or (Road of Golden Dreams!) was found and in 2018 it was purchased. 

It took five years of a teacher's salary to transform the little barn into The Little Barn, a  part-time home (thanks to Brexit) and an artist's residency space. 

In 2023 two artists enjoyed residencies and then storms showed that the roof needed replacing...

In February 2026  half of the roof was replaced and in June everything started again with the open call exhibition, 'Retreat' and the arrival of the first Artists in Residence.

2027 will be the busiest year yet, with eleven residencies (all free) and 60@60's open call when sixty women artists will exhibit. Additionally, a beautiful garden on loan will (hopefully) become part of The Little Barn Project permanently.

Twelve years from the original 'big idea', The Little Barn Project is alive and well and supporting artists in its own quirky way.  Thank you for being interested in what Denise - the person behind it all - is trying to do.
